This Booth MBA essay is a simple one about career goals. To answer this question fully and in detail, you should say what job you want to get right after you graduate from Booth. Name a job title and one or two places where you'd most like to work.
You'll also have to talk about your long-term plans (five to ten year plan). And explain not only what you want your role to be, but also how you want this job to affect the world as a whole. Then it would make perfect sense to talk about how an MBA from Booth would help you reach these goals. Explain why Booth is such a good next step. To show how well you fit in, give an example of a course or program that is relevant to your goals. Researching the program is very important. You can do this by going to an information session and talking to current students and alumni.
Given how open-ended this Booth MBA essay is, you might be tempted to talk about accomplishments or details that aren't related to the question or to talk about your plans in too much depth. But keep your focus on the question. When it comes to the word count, the application does say "use your best judgment." Try to stay between 300 and 500 words. We suggest that you start by thinking about your life outside of work to find a larger theme that shows who you are. You don't have to talk about every time you volunteered in your community. Instead, talk about your most influential experience in this essay. Here are three ways to come up with ideas:
Write down the 10 to 15 most significant things you've done, interests you have, or events that have happened to you in your life. Include the good, the bad, the amazing, the ugly, and everything else.
Look at the list and try to figure out what your life's most important events, interests, and ideas have in common. What did you do with your time? How have you fought for your values? What about you seems to make you who you are?
Choose one or two things from the list that best show your strengths or values and use them to define your approach and start writing.
Once you know what you value based on your experiences, interests, and passions, you can think about what you can bring to Booth. The committee that decides who gets in wants to know how your values and experiences will fit in with the group.
