Are you considering applying to the MBA program at Emory Goizueta for the 2022–2023 academic year? In order to help you create a competitive MBA application package, we will evaluate essay themes and examine how you could approach your MBA application in this blog post.
The three essay questions on the Emory Goizueta along with the video essay ask you to cover a lot of ground. The program's core values, your alignment with them, and of course your ability to interact and communicate effectively will all be factors considered by the admissions committee. The application's limited space for writing out your responses is another obstacle. Thus, choosing which important ideas and anecdotes to include and which to omit will be crucial. The key is to write clearly and concisely in your essays and to make sure that your on-camera persona matches your written persona. Having said that, let's examine the first essay question.
ESSAY ONE: POST-MBA CAREER GOALS
Define your short-term post-MBA career goals. How are your professional strengths, past experience, and personal attributes aligned with these goals? (300-word limit)
This question is difficult because it asks you to specify your short-term objectives in relation to three different factors: your prior experience, your skills, and your distinctive character. However, you can't fully describe each of these components in 300 words.
As a result, we advise that you talk about one topic from each category that is pertinent to your goals. Specificity, detail, and anecdotes are crucial. Instead of simply stating that you have a charismatic personality, illustrate how it enables you to act as the team's glue with a quick story. The importance of this trait to your short-term goal is then explicitly addressed.
The emphasis on short-term goals in the question suggests realism and specificity. In other words, what kind of role do you envision for yourself? Which industry? What are you trying to accomplish, and why? And, where do you, arguably, want to attain it?
ESSAY TWO: LEADERSHIP IN BUSINESS
The business school is named for Roberto C. Goizueta, former Chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, who led the organization for 16 years, extending its global reach, quadrupling consumption, building brand responsibility, creating unprecedented shareholder wealth, and demonstrating a commitment to values and positive impact on society. Roberto Goizueta’s core values guide us in educating principled leaders to have a positive influence on business and society.
Provide a specific example of your leadership and explain what you learned about yourself through the experience. (300-word limit)
This essay question calls for you to tell a very succinct story. You want to describe an example of a situation you oversaw that had a positive impact. Walk through what you did simply concentrating on your actions. Write a brief summary of what this leadership experience taught you about yourself in the final paragraph. Just concentrate on one or two important ideas at most.
To find the best topic or experience look for something that is fairly recent and has clearly had an impact. Most people will want to take advantage of this chance to highlight their contribution at work, but if your non-work story highlights an instance in which you truly stood out and demonstrated your impressive leadership skills, you might want to consider going down that path. Pick the subject matter carefully, making sure it improves your application as a whole and adds to the information already provided.
A great strategy is to use the STAR framework.
ESSAY THREE: WHY GOIZUETA?
What are you looking to gain from Goizueta’s MBA degree, and how do you see yourself contributing to the Goizueta community? (200-word limit)
Discuss how the Emory Goizueta program will be a bridge to your short-term goals. You can also express how you plan to explore broader aspirations through the program too, but again be specific. If you want to develop leadership presence, describe exactly how the program could help you.
For the second part of this question, be specific how you see yourself contributing to the Goizueta community. Describe two to three ways you plan to contribute by strategically showcasing your unique skills, qualities, experiences and/or other factors that are not presented elsewhere in the application. These unique skills and qualities should distinguish you. Describe how they will enhance the learning and or social environment in your MBA class.
VIDEO ESSAY
Telling your story in the written essays is an important part of the application process, but we also want to hear you tell some of your story. The video essay lets every candidate talk to the MBA Admissions Committee, and we enjoy getting to know you through the “small talk” questions.
You won't be able to prepare content, of course, but you are able to plan your strategy and presentation. Practicing is a great way to achieve this. Ask yourself questions and record your responses. If you have a buddy, ask them to grill you with a variety of questions so you can get ready for anything. Don't just talk for a minute while standing in front of a mirror. You want speaking in front of an audience to come naturally... so put your skills into practice!

Address any mitigating circumstances in this essay. Obviously, keep it brief. Consider this essay as a chance for you to explain things, not as a way to make excuses.
