Wharton: What's New in 2023?

What's New in 2023 at Wharton?

The Hybrid Global Executive MBA

In May 2023, the Wharton School will launch its Global Executive MBA online. Wharton has been online for more than 10 years, but it is the first of the major five business schools (amongst Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, and Northwestern) to offer an online hybrid MBA program . The program will initially enroll 60-70 students and last for 22 months, increasing Wharton's EMBA enrollment to 300 students in total.

The most significant distinction is that three-quarters of the teaching will take place in live online sessions, which will be offered in the early mornings and late evenings. The remainder will be held on Wharton's campus during five residential weeks. In other words, even though participants mostly take their classes online, Global EMBA students may get to know their classmates and professors personally.

Wharton charges the same tuition as its completely in-person EMBA programs in Philadelphia and San Francisco. That's $214,800! The school is to use the same instructors, programming, and support for its online participants, some of whom are Execs from other countries. Nevertheless it is true that students in the online program require less lodging and food. On-site EMBAs will inform you that this advantage is outweighed by the expenses of visiting campus every two weeks. So you have to ask yourself, is the cost worth the return?

THE Addition of Tangen Hall

Wharton makes ongoing investments to improve the learning environment. This includes Tangen Hall, its hub for entrepreneurship. The startup and innovation communities at Penn are connected by a seven story facility that gives them room to create, test, and expand their new businesses.

A recent P&Q article states that the brand-new, cutting-edge facility, which is 70,000 square feet, has a culinary innovation lab, street-level pop-up retail spaces for student retail businesses, a virtual reality environment, a digital media lab, maker studios, and a significant amount of free space.

The Wharton School, Penn Engineering, and Stuart Weitzman School of Design have formed a new relationship to strengthen Penn's startup environment, which is revealed in Tangen Hall.

the New concentrations in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Wharton is introducing new specializations in ESG and DEI this year. The school not only teaches these subjects, but it is also progressively operating from them. For example, Wharton has had women make up the majority of the class for two years in a row. Wharton also has a 100,000-member alumni network in 153 countries and claims to cover every sector, organization, and role.

What can MBA’s expect from Wharton in the future?

Wharton's future, ironically, is in continuing education — this is where the school is training its campuses next.  According the School’s vice dean, Nicolai Siggelkow, “Clearly, we try the best we can to teach you a lot in the two years that you’re here. But, we can’t teach you everything that you will need to know, and you don’t know what else will come five years, or 10 years in the future. Thinking about the customized, personalized journey, it shouldn’t stop after two years.”
