Tuck Announces MBA Tuition Freeze

Covid's silver lining? Dartmouth Tuck announces MBA Tuition freeze for 2021-2022

According to a recent Poets&Quants article, Dartmouth Tuck had the highest MBA tuition of any b-school within the United States last year. Tuck’s tuition currently is at $77,500 and rose from 3.2% between 2019-2020 and 7.4% since 2018.

Earlier this month, the school announced that it has frozen tuition for the 2021-2022 year. According to Tuck spokesperson Lindsey Walter, “Our ongoing commitment to scholarship support, review and reimbursement of eligible student fees, and the freezing of tuition reflect decisions of school leaders who are both mindful of costs and confident in the proven ROI of a Tuck MBA.”

Tuck Class of 2022 saw a 97,4% increase in scholarships

In September last year, Dartmouth College announced that its endowment was more than $6 billion, the highest in school history. Despite the rocky market, it saw a 7.6% return on investment.

According to Matt Slaughter, Dean at Tuck, stated that the school “is assessing new ways it can deliver its personal, connected, and transformative MBA experience in the post-pandemic world; considering possible paths forward for profitable growth; and enhancing its financial resilience through zero-based budgeting.”

Lindsey Walter also adds, that throughout the pandemic, Tuck has reimbursed many student fees. Amongst them include TuckGo program fees, student activity fees, and eligible dining balances. However, she states that the schools consideration of student financial needs did not begin in 2020.

Tuck will begin many in-person classes in 2021 that the health guidance will allow

Scholarships at Tuck range from $10,000 to full tuition and the average scholarship for the Class of 2022 is $29,290. But does the tuition freeze mean that Tuck anticipates continued remote and hybrid learning, even as the pandemic is ending?

Well, not exactly. According to Walter, “We're preparing for a fall term that offers as many in-person classes and co-curricular opportunities as public health guidance will allow.” Further, the school anticipates that a third of the courses offered during spring 2021 will be hybrid - and classroom seat allocations will continue.

The total cost at Dartmouth Tuck in 2020 actually went down

According to a Poets&Quants, the total cost at Tuck last year actually went down. Thus, being another reason for the freeze. When it comes down to how much new MBA candidates are paying to attend an elite U.S business school, the pandemic has not helped, despite the continued online delivery of many programs.
