Other Graduate Degrees (MF, MFE, MiM) To Consider

OTHER GRADUATE DEGREES AND MASTER'S PROGRAMS

Attaining a master’s degree in business enables you to build a professional network and identify career opportunities. It can also improve prospects for future promotions and raises. We at Amerasia Consulting cover all aspects of the graduate school admission process. Whether you're applying for an MBA or other graduate programs we have listed below. More importantly, we recognize that each applicant is unique and will ultimately have a unique career path.

MASTER’S in FINANCE (MF)

A Master's in Finance offers direct preparation for careers in corporate finance and investment management. As well as financial analysis, personal financial planning, and many other industry positions. Most MF programs begin with core business courses (such as economics). Then they progress to areas in financial theory and markets, investment analysis, and corporate accounting. An MF, however, goes beyond what an MBA degree can offer with regards to finance. The reason is that an MF is more focused on financial training.

Many real-world experts teach in these specialized areas such as portfolio management. MIT Sloan's MFin degree offers an 18-month STEM curriculum with the option to accelerate in 12 months.  This is where you can learn quantitative techniques to solve business problems. Wharton offers an MF degree that allows students to prepare for certifications such as CPA or CFA.

MASTER’S in FINANCIAL ENGINEERING (MFE)

Compared to a Master of Finance degree, a Master's in Financial Engineering is more quantitative. This course also requires more software coding skills. An MFE is an interdisciplinary field drawing from business, computer science, mathematics, and engineering. The goal of an MFE is to train students (with engineering, applied mathematics or physics backgrounds) to apply their mathematical and engineering tools to finance. Financial engineers apply expertise in computer programming and mathematical theory to develop solutions to problems in business finance.

Ultimately, financial engineers create empirically derived models to guide decisions on investments, sales of assets, borrowing, lending, and risk management. With an MFE degree you can create and develop new financial products, manage financial risk, develop investment plans, design portfolios and systems for managing portfolios. Eventually, you would also be able to predict foreign exchange movements and develop Forex funds. The curriculum usually includes financial risk management, probability, quantitative methods, stochastic processes, pricing and hedging, derivatives, portfolio theory, and computational methods in finance. What schools offer the best MFE degrees? NYU Stern, Columbia Business School, UCLA Anderson, Berkeley Haas, and a few more.

MASTER’S in MANAGEMENT (MiM)

A Master's in Management degree offers advanced general management, leadership, and entrepreneurship knowledge. The advantage is that you don't need years of work experience to be considered. An MiM degree helps you develop leadership and managerial skills. And various programs let you  participate in progressive internship opportunities.

Many top schools in the US offer MiM degrees. Depending on the school, MiM’s may be found under different names such as M.Sc. in Management, M.Sc. in International Business, Master’s in Business and Economics, M.Sc. in General Management, or Master in International Management. NYU Stern, MIT Sloan, Columbia Business School, Stanford GSB, UCLA Anderson, and Michigan Ross offer some of the top MiM programs.

Past clients that have been accepted into top schools include Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, Kellogg, MIT Sloan, Michigan Ross, NYU Stern, Duke Fuqua, Yale SOM, Columbia Business School, Booth, Berkeley Haas, UCLA Anderson, and many more top schools around the world.
