Are You Eagerly Awaiting Decisions Regarding Your MBA Application?
Are you stuck in limbo, awaiting responses from business schools? It's difficult to wait for MBA decisions or interview invitations. Here's a look at what's going on behind the scenes, as well as some advice to help you get through it.
Do not read the internet forums.
It may be tempting, but avoid the forums. There is a lot of disinformation out there, as well as people publishing absolutely false information. Take nothing you read on the internet seriously unless it comes directly from the school.
Don't think you're out of the running.
Even if others you know have received interview invites but you have not, this does not indicate you are no longer being considered. Although a few institutions, such as Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford, synchronize the process and send out interview invites on specific dates, the majority of schools aren't that coordinated. Some of our clients were only told they had an interview the day before the date when the decision would be made public.
Do not place too much emphasis on random emails.
After submitting an application, it is human nature to search for hints. This involves examining every email correspondence from the schools. However, even when you apply, the bulk emails you receive from MBA programs are not all tailored. Essentially, marketing teams prepare a series of outreach emails that are sent to all active applicants at different stages of the cycle. They aren't really targeting your account beyond that.
Pass the time productively.
It might be difficult to unwind after all of the time and effort you put into making your MBA package competitive. If you want to stay busy, consider reaching out to students and alumni at your target schools to learn more about the program. You can also submit another application or two; occasionally those other institutions turn out to be the perfect fit for you.
